There’s no doubt that Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the strangest properties in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is saying a lot when you’re surrounded by a boy bitten by a radioactive spider and an Asgardian god. And before 2014 the group of extraterrestrial misfits who travel through space were relative unknowns compared to the likes of Spider-Man and Thor. Yet despite the film’s otherworldliness and relatively unknown stars, Guardians of the Galaxy went on to become one of Marvel’s most successful movies so far; it was the third highest-grossing film of 2014 and the fifth biggest release from the entire MCU. …
