In the summer of 2014, shop one of Marvel Studios’ riskiest films yet Guardians of the Galaxy released in theaters and became the third highest-grossing film of that year. Not many would have guessed that a movie based on relatively unknown characters, played by up-and-coming actors, set in space and featuring a talking tree and raccoon would do so well at the box office. And yet it was a big hit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, landing in the franchise’s top 10 most successful movies ever. A sequel reuniting the cast with writer-director James Gunn is scheduled to be released next year.
