Amazon Announces 6 New Pilots, Including Comedies from Louis C.K., Sacha Baron Cohen
Amazon Studios will debut 6 new pilots this fall, including a comedy from Louis C.K., one from Sacha Baron Cohen and a biopic with Christina Ricci. Tig Notaro stars in dark comedy One Mississippi, loosely based on the comedian’s life as she returns to her hometown after the death of her mother. In Highston, newcomer Lewis Pullman is a 19-year-old with a wide circle of celebrity friends only he can see. And Z tells the real-life story of Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald (Ricci), as she meets, falls in love and marries then-unpublished writer F. Scott Fitzgerald (Gavin Stenhouse).
On the drama side, Edge follows a Union officer turned cowboy (Max Martini), who prowls the post-Civil War west doling out his own savage brand of justice. Ryan Kwanten and Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck) co-star. In Good Girls Revolt, Genevieve Angelson, Anna Camp, Erin Darke and Grace Gummer star as a group of young female researchers in 1969 that unknowingly set off the beginning of the women’s rights movement. Hunter Parrish and Jim Belushi also star. And intelligence officer John Tavner (Michael Dorman) must try to prevent Iran from going nuclear in political thriller Patriot. ‘Game Of Thrones’ star Maisie Williams in Talks to Star in ‘The Forest of Hands and Teeth’
Maisie Williams is in talks to star in The Secret Garden actress turned writer/director Kate Maberly’s adaptation of The Forest of Hands and Teeth. Based on the New York Times best-selling novel by Carrie Ryan, set sometime in the future, humanity has been taken over by a virus that turns people into cannibals. Mary (Williams) leads a group of survivors outside their fenced-off village, hoping to find freedom beyond the forest that surrounds them. [Variety]
The Angry Birds aren’t just angry any more; They’re also going through anger management in the first trailer for the film adaptation of Rovio’s bestselling game. Jason Sudeikis stars as the ill-tempered Red, with Josh Gad as Chuck and Danny McBride as Bomb. Bill Hader voices Leonard, one of the leaders of the green pigs, and Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, and Peter Dinklage round out the ensemble voice cast.
Another Shondaland medical drama could be coming to ABC: Shonda Rhimes has sold a new series set in the Middle East. The untitled project, from Grey’s Anatomy writer-producer Zoanne Clack, centers on a U.S. Army Medevac team operating out of a base camp in Baghdad around 2004. Rhimes also has How to Get Away with Murder and midseason drama The Catch at the network, as well as Brides of Christ and Splitsville in development. [THR]
Mr. Robot star Stephanie Corneliussen will play DC Comics villain Valentina Vostok in multiple episodes of Legends of Tomorrow. As a beautiful and gifted Soviet physicist during the Cold War, the Legends suspect Valentina might be working for Vandal Savage.
