It’s day one of TCA (the Television Critics Association press tour), and first on the docket is Netflix. We’re bringing you a rundown of all the latest news from the event:
Season 4 of Longmire is coming to Netflix on Sep. 10. Aziz Ansari’s new show Master of None will premiere Nov. 6. Netflix’s animated adult comedy BoJack Horseman has been renewed for season 3 and will return with 12 new episodes in 2016.
Netflix’s next series Jessica Jones is set to premiere in the fourth quarter of 2015. Every six months, a new season or series of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist will debut, leading up to the crossover event Defenders. Netflix boss Ted Sarandos says Jon Bernthal’s Punisher (who shows up in Daredevil season 2) could eventually get his own series.
The first episode of Netflix’s sequel series Fuller House has finished filming. The entire cast is back, but the Olsen twins are still deciding whether to eventually make an appearance.
Netflix boss Ted Sarandos says they intend for Arrested Development to have a fifth season, but there are still a lot of deals to work out with the cast and Fox (who owns the show).
James Lafferty Joins WGN America’s ‘Underground’
James Lafferty is about to take a trip far away from Tree Hill, N.C. The former One Tree Hill star has landed a recurring role on WGN America’s upcoming period drama Underground. Premiering in 2016, the series centers on a group of slaves planning a 600-mile escape from a Georgia plantation, aided by a secret abolitionist couple running a station on the Underground Railroad. Lafferty will play Kyle Risdin, a U.S. marshal who is intent on enforcing the Fugitive Slave Act. He joins a cast that includes Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: SVU) and Adina Porter (The 100). [THR]
‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ Casts ‘Sherlock’ Actor Jonathan Aris
Filming on Star Wars: Rogue One is due to get underway very soon, and now one more cast member has been revealed. Sherlock actor Jonathan Aris (who plays forensic investigator Philip Anderson on the hit BBC series) was listed on the British casting page Spotlight as portraying Senator Jebel in the new standalone Star Wars movie. That information, however, has since been removed, probably because it wasn’t meant to be released yet. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and starring Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Rogue One releases in theaters Dec. 16, 2016. [EW]
