Eight years and four movies after Michael Bay first directed a Transformers movie, thumb and it’s now a multi-billion dollar franchise. Despite critical perception of the series dwindling over the years, each new movie in the franchise has still managed to rake in hundreds of millions of dollars. So in spite of all evidence to the contrary, people clearly love watching Transformers movies.

And that’s something Paramount was counting on a few months ago when they placed Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) in charge of their new Transformers shared universe.
