Radar Watch: Dominic Sherwood Joins ‘Shadowhunters’, Mitch Pileggi on ‘The X-Files’ and More!

Dominic Sherwood - Shadowhunters
ABC Family’s new series Shadowhunters, based on Cassandra Clare’s best-selling The Mortal Instruments books, has found its Jace Wayland. British Vampire Academy star Dominic Sherwood will play the lead Shadowhunter, one of a group of human-angel hybrids who hunts down demons. He’s described as narcissistic, lethally gorgeous and a skilled demon hunter, whose mission in life is to find the man who killed his father. McG is directing the first episode, which follows 18-year-old Clary Fray who finds out she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters when her mother is suddenly kidnapped. [TheWrap]

Mitch Pileggi is officially returning to The X-Files as Assistant Director Walter Skinner for Fox’s upcoming event series. Pileggi confirmed the news via Twitter today, saying, “Very happy to announce that Walter Skinner will once again be getting all grumpy and bitchy with his two wayward kids. Very happy.” Skinner is the only character, besides Mulder and Scully, to appear in all nine seasons of the hit series. Production is expected to begin this June in Vancouver for a 2016 airdate. ADRIANNE PALICKI, NICK BLOOD

ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff is starting to take shape. Season 2 cast members Nick Blood and Adrianne Palicki, who play husband and wife duo Lance Hunter and Bobbi Morse aka Mockingbird, are reportedly in negotiations to star in the new series, which will be set up by events happening later this season on S.H.I.E.L.D. Executive producer Jeffrey Bell and co-executive producer Paul Zbyszewski are writing the script, with Zbyszewski expected to serve as showrunner should it go forward. The network is also developing another superhero series with Oscar-winner John Ridley. [Deadline]

Comments

I imagine the SHIELD spin-off will find itself (unfairly) scrutinized, given how strongly AoS initially divided the fanbase, and because we’ve now seen how strong MarvelTV can be. Keeping the universe growing properly in a post-Daredevil universe will be tough for another network TV show.
