After nearly a decade of development, Jim Henson’s musical puppet series may finally be coming to theaters everywhere, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt attached to produce and star in a live-action film for New Regency. The popular TV series, which debuted in 1983 and ran for 5 years, centers on the adventures of cave-dwelling creatures called Fraggles and other species like Doozers and Gorgs. [Variety]
The first trailer for John Green’s novel Paper Towns has arrived. Nat Wolff and Cara Delevingne star as Quentin Jacobsen and Margo Roth Spiegelman, two teens caught up in a tale of revenge and rebellion, until one day Margo disappears. Written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who penned Green’s The Fault in Our Stars last year, and directed by Jake Schreier (Robot & Frank), Paper Towns releases in theaters on July 24th. There’s no rest for the weary or for I. Marlene King. The creator of Pretty Little Liars has a new TV series in the works for ABC Family, based on the novel Famous in Love by Rebecca Serle. Bella Thorne (The Duff) is set to star in the potential drama about a small town college girl who becomes famous overnight when she’s cast as the lead in a major Hollywood movie franchise. Serle and King, who is also adapting novel The Merciless, are writing the pilot. [Deadline]
The Tomorrow People‘s Luke Mitchell arrives on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. next month, and the first photo of his Inhuman character has been released. Ryan Guzman’s life is about to take yet another weird turn, as the Pretty Little Liars and The Boy Next Door actor has joined NBC’s miniseries Heroes Reborn. Led by returning star Jack Coleman and Zachary Levi (Chuck), the 13-episode event series from Heroes creator Tim Kring will take place after the original and follow a new set of characters. No details have been released, but Guzman may be playing a former military man. The series will also star Robbie Kay (Once Upon a Time), Danika Yarosh, Henry Zebrowski and Gatlin Green. [Deadline]
Bethany Joy Lenz has found her next big hit. The One Tree Hill actress-singer has landed a series-regular role on Shonda Rhimes’ ABC drama pilot Smoke and Mirrors. The potential series follows Mireille Enos (The Killing) as fraud investigator Alice Martin, a strong successful woman who is about to be conned herself by fiancé Kieran (Damon Dayoub). Lenz will play Kieran’s wife Zoe, who often pretends to be his sister in their cons. A girl-next-door type, she’ll try desperately to hang on to Kieran as she senses him drifting away from her.
