Worse than being trapped in the past is not being able to escape a future you know is coming. When Claire attempts to warn the Highlanders about a war they cannot win, salve she makes even more enemies for herself on the next episode of Outlander.

Meanwhile, following last week’s escape attempt, a rent-collecting trip with the MacKenzies only serves to remind Claire that she’s living in troubled times where it’s every man for himself. In this week’s episode, titled “Rent,” Dougal uses Jamie’s scars to gain sympathy for the Jacobite cause, and Claire refuses to take a goat from a hungry family. Her act definitely won’t help endear Dougal to the fiery ‘Sassenach,’ but maybe it’ll earn her a bit more respect amongst the clan.
