Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch in Talks for ‘True Detective’ Season 2
Nominated for 12 Emmy Awards this week, HBO’s True Detective may have found its new leads with Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch. Reports say the two actors are currently in talks to star in the acclaimed drama’s second season, while at least one other lead, rumored to be female, remains uncast. The new season is expected to be set in rural California and consist of eight episodes, all written by series creator Nic Pizzolatto. [TheWrap]
‘Tomorrow People’ Star Luke Mitchell Joins ABC’s ‘Members Only’
ABC drama Members Only, from American Hustle writer/director David O. Russell and Erin Brockovich writer Susannah Grant, has added The Tomorrow People star Luke Mitchell to its ensemble cast. He’ll play Jesse, the new towel boy at a private country club who is from the wrong side of town and yet secretly has his life together more than anyone realizes. The 12-episode upstairs/downstairs soap, in the vein of Downton Abbey, was given a straight-to-series order back in January and will premiere in early 2015. [THR]

MTV Orders Fantasy Drama ‘Shannara’ to Series
Every network is hoping to recreate the success of Game of Thrones, including MTV which has ordered ten episodes of fantasy drama Shannara. Based on the popular saga of around 30 novels by Terry Brooks, the series takes place thousands of years after the destruction of civilization, when the Shannara family uses ancient magic to influence their world. The first season of the series will derive its story from The Elfstones of Shannara, the second novel in the saga. Smallville writers Al Gough and Miles Millar wrote the pilot script, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ Jonathan Liebesman is set to direct the first two episodes. [EW]
Syfy Greenlights ‘The Magicians’ Pilot
Syfy has announced it is moving forward with a pilot for The Magicians, an adaptation of Lev Grossman’s best-selling fantasy book trilogy. Often described as Harry Potter for adults, the first script written by John McNamara (Prime Suspect) and Sera Gamble (Supernatural) follows a group of 20-somethings, studying magic in New York, who discover the fantasy world they read about as children is real and poses a great danger to humanity. Fox Reveals 2014 Fall Premiere Dates
There’s only two months to go until the start of the 2014 TV season, and Fox has revealed that new reality series Utopia will kick off its fall schedule on Sept. 7. Viewers then have to wait until Sept. 16 to catch the newest episodes of New Girl and The Mindy Project, while new drama Red Band Society premieres the next night on Sept. 17. A double dose of genre with Gotham and Sleepy Hollow debuts on Sept. 22, and Fox’s long-running drama Bones returns on Sept. 25. Event series Gracepoint begins its 10-part run on Oct. 2.
