Six Seasons and Maybe a Movie
Waiting until the last possible day before contracts expired, Yahoo has picked up the previously cancelled series Community for 13 all-new episodes. It looks like creator Dan Harmon and the entire cast will be returning to Greendale Community College after all, despite fans and critics alike thinking the series had reached the end of the road after talks with Hulu failed just last week. Still no word yet on a movie, but give it time. [EW]
Come 2015, former Rescue Me star Denis Leary will return to fight fires on FX, albeit of a very different sort this time. The cable network has ordered comedy Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll — created, written and starring Leary — to series with 10 episodes centered on Johnny Rock, a middle-aged rock ‘n roller who is trying to right the wrongs of his past to finally become rich and famous. Only trouble is this means making amends with the bandmates he once screwed over. [THR]
The Past Can’t Be Washed Away
The final season of The Killing premieres August 1st, and Netflix has painted a very dreary portrait of the end with the last poster, featuring Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) staring off into the deep abyss. Reportedly the series will come full circle as Linden completes her journey and realizes there’s bad and good in all of us. [TVLine]
HBO’s newest series The Leftovers, from Lost creator Damon Lindelof, premiered last night to the respectable tune of 1.8 million viewers. But hoping for a bit more buzz and some extra eyeballs next week, the first episode has now been released online to watch for free. The drama, based on the post-apocalyptic novel by Tom Perrotta, takes place three years after 2 percent of the world’s population vanishes in a supposed rapture, leaving the rest to deal with the aftermath. Warning: It’s not for the faint of heart. [Yahoo]
