‘Outlander’ Preview: Introducing Ron Moore’s New Series

Books being made into television series are nothing new at this point. Yet you’d be hard pressed to find one more anticipated and with such a large fanbase, site besides maybe Game of Thrones, find as the upcoming Starz adaption of Diana Gabaldon’s historical-fantasy Outlander. Created by Battlestar Galactica’s Ronald D. Moore, the first season of 16 episodes is set to premiere sometime this summer.

First published in 1991, Outlander follows a 20th century nurse Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), who time travels to 18th century Scotland. There she meets her husband Frank’s ancestor Captain Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies). Out of place and out of time, Claire joins Colum MacKenzie (Gary Lewis) and his brother Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish) for safety, befriends the mysterious and possible witch Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek), then soon falls in love with Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).
