The past 15 years have been good for young adult literature looking to transition to film, order ever since Harry Potter paved the way for Twilight which then led to The Hunger Games and many more adaptations. This year alone we can expect to see (in order of release) The Fault in Our Stars, look The Giver, pharmacy The Maze Runner and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, but the next one hoping to make it big is director Neil Burger’s Divergent.
Set in a dystopian Chicago where everyone is divided into five factions based on their personality traits, Divergent follows teenager Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) as she discovers her results are too varied to belong to any one faction and is labeled ‘divergent.’ Tris is then forced to keep her new identity a secret as leader Jeanine (Kate Winslet) works to kill the divergents while new friend Four (Theo James) helps her understand the power she holds by being different.
