Even though I knew how “Slither” would end, it didn’t make it any less powerful or heartbreaking. If you haven’t been watching the show thus far, this is the one you need to watch. It changes everything.
Jessica Parker Kennedy absolutely stole the show this week as Melissa, a member of the circle possessed by the demon Abaddon. I know I already said this last week, but I like how all the episodes up til now have led into this one. Everything we’ve seen, everything the circle’s learned, is used by Abaddon, through Melissa, to get the circle to do what he (it?) wants.
And its mission is to unleash whatever’s in that creepy suitcase. To do so, it convinces Nick that Melissa loves him, Faye that Melissa’s her best friend, and Cassie that Melissa needs help. Everyone’s weaknesses become the demon’s strengths. They would have never seen it coming, too, if it wasn’t for that gravely voice and the snakes that chose to show themselves whenever anyone was looking.
One of the biggest surprises was Cassie finally telling her grandmother about the circle. (“I know who I am, who you are – who mom was. I’m a witch and I need your help!”) All season long they’ve tried to keep their identity hidden, but I’m glad that when they needed her the most, her grandmother was there to help. And if that’s what an experienced witch is like, I can’t wait to see more. Our circle definitely needs a lot more training.
Nothing could have prepared us though for the end. I knew a member of the circle would die, and I had a really good idea it would be Nick. I still wasn’t prepared for how it happened. Charles drowning Nick to get rid of the demon is going to haunt me as much as it will haunt him. I was able to hold my feelings together until that montage of everyone’s reaction to Nick’s death. Now, I can’t wait to see the aftermath of how this will affect everyone.
Notes and Quotes:
Turns out their are six crystals out there which used to be one, and demons don’t like them.
Adam and Diana were hot, and I love the choice to play Florence and the Machine’s “What the Water Gave Me”. And Adam’s reaction to being interrupted was priceless.
Adam and Diana were the first members of the circle before anyone else.
The fact the Elders stripped the other generation of their powers is detailed in Cassie’s Book of Shadows.
Diana: I know, it’s disgusting. I’m a horrible cook.
Adam: Not if cooks are judged on effort and adorableness.
Faye: What the hell Melissa, how many witches does it take to open a suitcase?
Melissa: Six, I think.
Cassie: Well, I’m guessing it’s not a Book of Shadows.
Nick: It’s not what you think
Faye: Not even remotely.
Charles: We killed a boy tonight.
Dawn: We killed a demon. And think of who we saved. It was the right thing to do.
Charles: There was nothing right about that. I killed a boy, a child. That’s something that should never feel right.Diana: If I lost you, I couldn’t take it.
Adam: You’re not going to lose me.
Diana: Promise?
Cassie: What good is magic if you can’t save the people you care about?
Grandma Jane: Ours is not an easy life, Cassie. And witchcraft has never been about fun and games. It’s dangerous. And it attracts darkness.
