In “The Duelist and the Drifter,” Lion-O goes out for supplies and trades in the Sword of Omens for some magic beans. Okay, not really. He loses it to a sword duelist and collector in battle. And all this happens without the other Thundercats again, mind you.
The Duelist: You, my friend, have something I desire.
Lion-O: Sorry, Snarf’s not for sale.
This week’s episode is probably on par with “Ramlak Rising” for weakest of the season. It might have been fine early on when Lion-O was still trying to find himself. At this point though, it just feels overdone. Why isn’t he evolving and learning yet?
Yet, one of the things that makes this episode, and the rest, worth it are the characters. The Drifter was frustrating at times with his lackadaisical attitude but a unique homage to Westerns. And the Duelist with all the swords on his back was ten kinds of cool.
Lion-O: I understand now. Power alone is rigid, but if you can bend with the wind, you’ll never break!
So I’m not completely upset we got yet another Lion-o episode, as I am that it’s the last episode before a hiatus. Last week’s “Legacy” was a more fitting cliffhanger for the future quest to find the stones. They could have easily swapped these last two episodes, and I would have been happier. Whiskers!
Notes:
The most interesting thing I got out of this episode was why the town wouldn’t take Lion-O’s coins. Has it really been that long since Thundera fell?
