Review: I put my faith in you doc, as well as a good chunk of my paycheck. Play ball.

The Lying Game is being called a stronger version of The CW’s Ringer. And after watching this week’s episode, it’s not hard to see why. Yeah, I’m going to go ahead and call it, too: This show is definitely the more interesting of the two twin-dramas.

In “Escape From Sutton Island,” twins Emma and Sutton’s worlds are about to fall apart. With Eduardo in the hospital, and Mads and Char demanding answers, will Emma (as Sutton) finally tell her friends the truth about everything and the switch? And what about Sutton back in Los Angeles?

Char’s Mom: Those bastards broke her heart — both of them. They’re the reason Annie left for L.A. and never came back.

But first, let’s talk about last week’s, “Bad Boys Break Hearts.”

The ‘bad boys’ in question, as Emma realizes, are Alec and Ted. Many years ago, the two of them had some kind of relationship with Emma and Sutton’s mother Annie and ended up breaking her heart. And it’s a good thing Emma (as Sutton) keeps that information to herself because Kristen doesn’t even think her husband Ted knew Annie all that well. My guess is Ted actually got to know Annie pretty well in secret while he did his residence in Los Angeles, if you know what I mean.

So, are either Ted or Alec the father of Emma and Sutton? At this point, all signs have pointed to Ted being the father of the girls while Alec continuously covers up his ‘mistake’. But why is Alec so much more invested in everything than Ted? Is he that good of a friend? Or just that much of a creeper? I’m going to say, he’s that much of a creeper. So far, we’ve seen him spying on the twins’ every move, hiring Derek to get close to Char, and it’s suggested he put poor Eduardo in the hospital for overhearing a phone conversation he had about Annie.

Then, cliffhanger: Sutton gets a glimpse of her mother at an asylum, just before she’s grabbed from behind.

Alec: I put my faith in you doc, as well as a good chunk of my paycheck. Play ball.

And now, “Escape to Sutton Island”:

From Ethan’s brother Dan, who Alec helped out and now owes him, to the nurse at the asylum, who Alec is paying off, it seems everyone is doing Alec’s bidding and helping him cover his tracks this week in one way or another. Then, there’s also Derek who Alec hired to get close to Char, and we’re still not sure to what end.

Ethan: Dude, you are such a loser.

But the real drama of the episode lies with Emma and Sutton. With Thayer back in town and him and Ethan coming to blows, Ethan lets it slip at the hospital how Thayer slept with Sutton. Oops, now all of Sutton’s friends think she (Emma as Sutton) slept with Thayer before he went to Los Angeles. And Emma’s taking all of this very seriously since she’s not ready to come clean about the switch and give up her life as Sutton.

I actually expected her to finally start telling the truth about everything, but instead she only lets her friends in on the search for her mother and that Alec is keeping some secret. This can lead nowhere good as Mads will now be even more suspicious of her father and undoubtedly get herself into trouble. I just really hope Eduardo doesn’t die.

Emma: Difference is I can change my own tire. …There’s no spare.
Ethan: That’s too bad. I was really hoping to watch you change it.

I’m loving Ethan and Emma more and more. Last week, he was upset with Emma for keeping Sutton’s secret from him, but now he’s over it and fighting to fix their relationship. Yet, this time Emma’s having none of it because she wonders if he still has feelings for Sutton over how he reacted.

It’s the classic relationship problem (Does he like me for me?) made even bigger. Of course, Ethan puts that to rest quickly when he tells Thayer that Emma is just like Sutton “but better.” Zing. Plus, who didn’t love Ethan being overprotective and teasing Emma about watching her change a tire? (“Sexy.”) And then the ride on the back of his motorcycle? Yowza. They can’t resist each other. It’s just a matter of time.

Oh, and Laurel decides to have sex with Justin in his abandoned him. It may have gone according to plan if she didn’t decide to stay out all night without an excuse. Is it any wonder her parents found out where she was and came rushing in all alarmed? See, most teenagers are really too immature for these things.

Annie: They told me she’s dead.
Sutton: No, she’s not!

But the award for having a sucky time goes to Sutton after she’s stuck in the asylum because no one will believe she’s not Emma. They all believe she’s crazy, and are about to stick her with a needle, so she finally agrees with the nurse. You think that’d be a good thing, right? Well, now they’re sending her back to Emma’s foster home in Vegas. Uh, oh. And in case you’re afraid of what Emma’s creepy foster brother Travis will do to Sutton, guess what, he’s actually in Phoenix with Emma.

But the most heartbreaking reveal of all is we learn Annie was told her daughter died in a fire. And the poor lady is clearly crazy. It’s really sad.
