One of the awesome things about joining Twitter is being able to connect with people from all over the world and get an inside look at their daily lives. Follow the right people, and there’s a wealth of information available out there on topics that may interest you. For me that means getting the inside scoop on what’s hot and going on in the entertainment biz.
Now that pilot season is done, pilot screeners have been going out to all the journalists. I’ve collected some of their first impressions from Twitter, and I’m reposting them here. Obviously, these are their opinions, and your mileage may vary. First though, I’m dropping of some trailer love.
Trailer Love
I’ve been sharing trailers a lot of trailers lately, so I’ve compiled my favorites: Green Lantern, The Adventures of Tintin, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Happy Feet 2, Torchwood: Miracle Day, Luther, Awake, Ringer, The Secret Circle, and Homeland.
Summer
X-Men: First Class and Super 8
@LarryCarroll: Hot damn. The new “X-Men” movie is all kinds of awesome. Mind still processing it all…
@LATherocomplex: If personality is an unbroken series of successful gestures, then “X-Men: First Class” and “Super 8” are movies with personality.
Luther – Luther s1 is on Netflix Instant Watch if you’d like to get caught up before S2.
@televisionary: The first episode of #Luther S2 is absolutely amazing. Terrifying and riveting. Just… wow. Airs June on BBC One, fall 2011 on @BBCAMERICA
Torchwood – Torchwood s3 is on Netflix Instant Watch if you’d like to get caught up before s4.
@EricIGN: “Honey, this is awesome” – My wife, 10 minutes into Torchwood: Miracle Day. I’m in agreement.
@televisionary: One episode into #Torchwood: Miracle Day and hopelessly hooked all over again. A brief break and then onto Episodes 2-3.
@televisionary: First three episodes of #Torchwood: Miracle Day are so, so good. Overflowing with tension and moral greyness. Loving it.
@televisionary: Such a provocative and morally ambiguous storyline. And Bill Pullman is giving me chills. Terrifying.
@televisionary: Everyone is fantastic. Loved Dichen, as always. But Pullman delivers a transformative performance. Awe-inspiring.
Nine Lives of Chloe King
@VladaGelman: Just watched the pilot for The Nines Lives of Chloe King. Fun, action-y summer show. Grey Damon speaks! Will check it out again.
Fall
Ringer
@televisionary: Really liked Ringer. It had a lot of potential. Wanted a bit more tension but willing to give it a few episodes.
@tbrick2: Just finished Ringer. Really loved the pilot, but man is everyone on this show really, really screwed up. SMG is fantastic. Duh.
Smash
@televisionary: Despite disinterest in musical theatre, was entertained by #Smash. Would watch, though whether it could sustain mult seasons is unclear.
Awake
@televisionary: Loved the #Awake pilot. Definitely lives up to the beauty of @killen8’s amazing script. Emotional and riveting. Best network pilot so far.
Secret Circle
@cadlymack: Better than the Vampire Diaries pilot, but it mostly sets up the rest of the series. I’m reserving judgment.
@cadlymack: Gale Harold is by far the best part of The Secret Circle pilot. Great chem between Britt & Dekker too.
@tbrick2: Really liked the pilot, but it’s more of a set-up for the rest of the series. Gale, Phoebe, Britt and Dekker are great.
@HitFixDaniel: “Secret Circle” pilot delivers on its “Vampire Diaries” compatibility potential. Already a Phoebe Tonkin fan.
Hart of Dixie
@cadlymack: So far #HartOfDixie is PERFECT. It’s everything I love about Everwood & Gilmore Girls & Summer Roberts, plus boxed wine. Perfect.
@tbrick2: I love love love the Hart of Dixie pilot. It’s SO charming, adorable, cute, etc.
Alcatraz
@televisionary: Alcatraz pilot: very much a mixed bag. The plot managed to be needlessly convoluted and dialogue clunky/stilted. Uncurious characters grate.
Person of Interest
@televisionary: #PersonofInterest: Novel conceit for procedural drama & high prod values, but Caviezel & procedural nature don’t make me hungry for next ep.
@televisionary: If you’re into procedurals, #PersonsofInterest might work for you and it’s certainly edgier than standard CBS fare, thanks to antihero…
@televisionary: …but I just didn’t care to stick around to watch them save people week after week. And the talk of “the machine”? Instant headache.
@televisionary: That said, #PersonofInterest was far better than #Alcatraz. So there’s that.
Apartment 23
@cadlymack: P.S. I just watched “Apartment 23.” Approx 1000000 Dawson’s Creek references. Therefore, you all must watch in the fall.
Charlie’s Angels
@kryptonsite: Enjoyed the #CharliesAngels pilot. @MSiega’s direction is great & I already have a favorite Angel. 0:)
2011/2012
American Horror Story
@thejackalfiles: Read American Horror Story and Awake. Liked both. Will be interesting to see how AHS works as a show.
2012
Veep
@televisionary: I have a new favorite show: @HBO’s #Veep, by @Aiannucci (#TheThickofIt). Pilot is brilliantly savage political satire. Airs in 2012, I think.
Not Picked Up
17th Precinct
@thefutoncritic: Got to see “17th Precinct” – very mixed bag; some neat stuff but characters never pop; no real emotional hook; disappointing unfortunately.
The more I read about it, the more intrigued I’m becoming with Hart of Dixie. I loved The OC and I was a huge Summer fan and I hope this show gives Rachel Bilson the opportunity to shine. Looks like it might be a bit more sweet and gentle than the shows I often watch too, which is nice. You don’t always need to see blood and gore on TV!
I miss the WB terribly. So, I say if it’ll bring a part of the WB back, then I’m there. Plus, it seems cute and set in the south and all, so I’ll definitely check it out.
