NBC’s official upfront presentation isn’t actually until tomorrow, but the network got a headstart today by announcing their schedule a day early. And if NBC gets to start early, then why shouldn’t I start talking about it? I mean, tomorrow is already going to be busy enough for everyone with FOX’s upfront presentation anyway.
Thanks to the news of the past few days, we already had a general idea of how the schedule would look, but what’s surprising is what NBC has decided to put in each timeslot and what’s been pushed to midseason. I was going to wait until tomorrow, but I guess the creation of my fall schedule starts now.

Chuck has been moved to Friday and for a shorter season of only 13 episodes. Judging by the low ratings its received this past season, fans should count themselves lucky it’s even back at all. Case in point: V, Human Target, etc. Be happy and enjoy this last season.
As for Grimm, written by Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel’s David Greenwalt, I can’t decide if NBC really thinks is actually going to benefit from being paired on Friday with Chuck or not. I guess Chuck is the best lead in they have for it right now, but the whole thing still seems kind of risky. And pitting Grimm in the same timeslot as FOX’s Fringe? Friday has just become Genre Friday again.
I’m also wondering about the odds for the Prime Suspect remake, seeing as the only real distinguishing characteristic of the original was having a female cop as the lead. Nowadays, with the networks having so many different kinds of procedurals around, it’s premise is not such a novelty.
Then there’s NBC’s most talked about pilot, Smash, starring Anjelica Huston and American Idol’s Katharine McPhee, which is actually being pushed to spring to join NBC’s new hit The Voice. Smash and The Voice may be a good pairing, but what does NBC now have left in the fall that we care about if this is now midseason?
Even NBC’s second most talked about pilot, Awake (formerly REM), starring Jason Isaacs, written by Lonestar’s Kyle Killen, and beautifully directed by Hard Candy’s David Slade, is not on the fall schedule and only being rumored for midseason.
While, The Firm, which hasn’t even been filmed yet, is already on the midseason schedule. Granted, NBC clearly has higher hopes for it and the fact it’s based on the already popular movie will give it a built in audience.
EDIT: Thought I should also mention that Anthony Stewart Head (Giles from BtVS) will be back on tv in NBC’s comedy Free Agents.
Oh NBC, I just don’t know about this schedule. Still, I wish them all the best since they’re basically trying to revive their network and start from scratch this year.

How does your schedule look so far?
OMG that’s pathetic! LOL I will watch Chuck and check out Grimm maybe. What happened to NBC? They used to be Must Watch TV but I guess not any more…
I have been watching the Office but I keep asking myself why I still am so I might finally give that up if there is something else to watch on another channel. *crosses fingers*
What’s pathetic? Nothing interests you in their fall lineup? It seems like a lot of the networks are going for drama pilots and casting the genre pilots off to Fridays to try and survive. It doesn’t seem like we’re going to be getting a lot out of this season…
Yeah, just that there isnt anything exciting on nbc at all.
I love Chuck. It’s fun, witty, unique, has great characters and the cast has great chemistry. Its ratings were always about what they were this season, so ever since the first one I’ve been expecting its cancellation, which makes a fifth season a bonus, even if it’s just for 13 episodes. But even with its low ratings NBC hasn’t managed to air another show on that time slot on Mondays that steadily got those, so I guess that helped the show last as long as it did. I would have loved to see it on Mondays next season as it has been Chuck day for the last four years and it was a great thing to look forward to, but the move definitely won’t make me stop watching it.
Actually, Chuck has been steadily declining each year.
1st: 7.0-8.4
2nd: 6.0-7.4
3rd: 5.0-7.0
4th: 4.0-6.0
Seems third and fourth have been about the same. Judging by the fact it wasn’t certain to come back for a fourth, that’s we were certain it would come back for a fifth. What often happens though is they put something in it’s place and it fails to do better. We shall see!
Community, Parenthood (maybe…I can only take so much family angst), and I’ll give Prime Suspect a shot out of respect for the original. I’ll be watching Fringe on Friday. No question there. Though still have not seen the last episode….bad fan. :(
You have all summer to see it! ;)
I’ve been thinking about checking out Community. Yay or nay?
A big yay, though the first few episodes of the first season are not so good. Which is why I originally dropped it. I picked it up again after catching the paintball episode (s1x23) and have been a fan since. So I’d say you can pick it up wherever. It isn’t necessary to start from the beginning. I got my mom to watch the last two episodes (coincidently both paintball episodes) and she loved it. I’d say watch those on hulu and finish off the season or give it a shot this summer. It would make a great summer catchup show. Good tone for that.
I watched four seasons of Weeds this weekend. I guess I’m just not in the mood for Fringe.
