All right, I’m awake, I’m awake. I stayed up until 2:30 last night watching Cannes reactions to Tree of Life on Twitter. Who’s brilliant idea was it to have Upfront week at the same time as the Cannes Film Festival?

Even though NBC released their schedule a day early yesterday, their official Upfront presentation was today. Nothing has changed in the schedule, but you can now check out the official trailers for their new shows, instead of those vague clips from yesterday.

Today is FOX’s Upfront presentation, and they seem to be taking a page from NBC’s playbook by pushing their new scripted dramas to midseason! At least we’ll have Terra Nova to look forward to this fall, after being delayed since last fall. And let’s hope it’s good, because it’s looking like slim pickings for genre shows this fall across all the networks.

Welcome to Terra Nova, FOX’s new flagship sci-fi drama, now taking over House’s old timeslot, premiering a year after it was originally supposed to be released. Word from FOX is it’s taken this long because of expensive special effects, it will be the most expensive broadcast pilot to date, but one has to wonder if development problems also had something to do with it.

There’s been an endless amount of people involved with the show, and even Buffy the Vampire Slayer and 24’s David Fury was originally onboard to Executive Produce, but then left suddenly due to creative differences. He left behind FlashForward’s Brannon Braga in charge, who many genre fans blame for the demise of Star Trek: Voyager and Enterprise. So yes, I’m a little skeptical as to the quality of this show, but I give kudos to FOX for attempting such an epic series and its efforts in genre programming. I even heard the newest script draft for Terra Nova’s pilot episode is not too bad.

At least Fringe is back, and for a full season, too. Fans of Fringe should be very happy considering all the other shows that were canceled or pushed to midseason to pave the way for this fall schedule. For instance, the other two new FOX dramas, Bones’ spinoff The Finder and JJ Abrams’ Alcatraz, have both been sent to midseason.
