Basically speaking, these are all projects I’ve been following and am eager to check out in the months to come. I’m sure you’ll find something of interest as I did. So, check it out and let me know what you think. Teasers/trailers/images provided where available.

The Cape (nbc) jan 9 – feb 21 I started off being really excited for this show. I mean, superheroes and Summer Glau? Be still my heart. Then, I was disappointed when it wasn’t what I expected. But over time I’ve actually learned to like it. Yeah, the show isn’t awesome, but it’s entertaining in a cheesy 60s Batman superhero-lite kind of way. Check it out! |
Off the Map (abc) jan 12 – apr 6 It’s no Grey’s Anatomy, but hey it’s set in the South American jungle! And you never know what you’re going to see or how they’re going to deal with it, which is why it’s so fascinating. So yeah, not a great show, but it’s interesting enough to keep me tuned in. And it has Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights), Caroline Dhavernas (Wonderfalls), and Rachelle LeFevre (Twilight). |
Being Human (syfy) premieres jan 17 Yes, another remake of a British series. They always seem to divide fandom between those who like the original, the remake, or both. And we all know most times a remake is never as good as the original series, but sometimes it can be good in its own right. I can like both, right? |
The Chicago Code (fox) premieres feb 7 I’m not usually interested in the cop part of cop dramas, but when the emphasis is on the drama things get a bit more interesting. Main points on this show: Made by Shawn Ryan creator of the awesome show The Shield. He was a protege of Joss Whedon and thus went to the school of character over plot. And Shawn has said Tim Minear, my second favorite Whedonverse writer, has been working with him, too. Sold. |
Outcasts (bbc) premieres feb 7 More British tee-vee! These days I’m starting to feel like the only good scifi/genre/mystery shows (Misfits, Being Human, Sherlock, etc.) are on British television. Their US counterparts are just either not good or very slow and boring. (I’m looking at you premium channels.) So, when I heard about the premise of outcasts and then cast (BSG’s Jamie Bamber) I was intrigued. Then, I watched the trailer and was sold. Soo good. Chills. Plus, bonus points for using Foal’s song Spanish Sahara. Mucho bonus points, even if nothing can ever surpass Misfits using it. |

Camelot (starz) premieres apr 1 Starz doesn’t always have the best quality when it comes to their shows, even if it is a pay channel. But who can ignore the gorgeous panoramas, the pretty visuals, sword fighting, and medieval times? Plus, OMG Eva Green (James Bond), Jamie Campbell Bower (Twilight), and Joseph Fiennes (FlashForward). Oh, and bonus points for using a 30 Seconds to Mars song in the trailer. |
The Killing (amc) premieres apr 3 I’m actually not sure what this will completely be about, besides the investigation into the murder of a young girl. But hey it’s on AMC, home of Mad Men and Walking Dead, and that’s all we have to know. Drama, intrigue. Yes, yes. Plus, hello female protagonist. Yes… |
Game of Thrones (hbo) premieres apr 17 Everyone and their mother has been talking about and anticipating this show, so what is there left to say? I haven’t read any of the books, but I’m excited to see a fantasy series taken on by a premium channel. Plus, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (New Amsterdam), Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings), and Lena Headey (Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles). Bring it. |
Terra Nova (fox) premieres may 23 A big ass science fiction show on FOX produced by Steven Spielberg? Good. Filming in Australia? Wow. Star Trek’s Brannon Braga as showrunner? Um… Buffy/Angel writer David Fury leaving due to ‘creative differences’? Uh oh. This whole thing could still be either really good or really bad. At the least I’m still excited to see it, and we won’t have to wait too long as there’ll be a sneak preview, ala Glee, in May before premiering in the fall. Oh, and it stars Jason O’Mara (Life on Mars) and Stephen Lang (Avatar). |
The Borgias (showtime) premieres spring 2011 I’ve never seen The Sopranos or The Tudors, etc. so any historical and dramatical similarities are lost on me. But hey, the world is ready for another scandalous historical family, right? Starring Jeremy Irons. |

Falling Skies (tnt) premieres june 2011 When I first heard about this I was like, Noah Wyle (ER) as the savior of mankind? Um… Now that I’ve seen the trailer though I’m intrigued. It was creepy and looks like a better version of V. And some impressive SFX. Plus, I do like myself a good TNT miniseries. |
Torchwood: Miracle Day (bbc/starz) premieres july 1 Torchwood was originally a spinoff of Doctor Who, and had a pretty good season 3 last year. (I just watched it last month.) This year everything gets bigger as they film in UK and America under the title Torchwood: Miracle Day. On the writing staff is Jane Espenson (Whedonverse) and John Shiban (X-Files, Breaking Bad). Dichen Lachman (Dollhouse) will be a guest star. Oh, and new stars for the show are Mekhi Phifer (ER), Bill Pullman, and Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under). |
Alphas (syfy) premieres summer 2011 Not much is actually known about Alphas yet besides: a team of ordinary citizens whose brain anomalies imbue them with extraordinary mental and physical abilities take the law into their own hands. The unlikely group, led by Dr. Lee Rosen (David Strathairn), investigates cases that suggest other Alpha activity to uncover what the CIA, FBI and Pentagon have not been able, or willing, to solve. You know how much I love a good superhero yarn, right? |

Alcatraz (fox) premieres fall 2011 Two words, J.J. Abrahms. Ok, one more word, a mystery. Basically, investigating the reappearance of twenty wardens and prisoners of Alcatraz in modern day, after their mysterious disappearance fifty years ago. Starring, Santiago Cabrera (Heroes), Jorge Garcia (Lost), Sarah Jones (Big Love), Parminder Nagra (ER), and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park). Sold. |
Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome (syfy) premieres 2011 I know I said I wouldn’t watch another prequel for Battlestar Galactica, especially one set in the war and not back on Caprica, but there’s just something about that world. I’m just going to say I’ll check it out and then go from there. Luke Pasqualino (Skins) has been cast as William Adama. |
Homeland (showtime) premieres 2011 Created by Howard Gordon who worked on The X-Files, BtVS, Angel, The Inside, and 24. The series is about a Marine Sergeany Scott Brody, who returns home eight years after going missing in Iraq, and they suspect he might be plotting an attack on America. Plus, Claire Danes, who just won a Goldon Globe and SAG, has been cast in the lead. Also, cast is Damian Lewis (Life) and Mandy Patinkin (Criminal Minds). Oh, and Ben Affleck may direct the pilot. |
Locke & Key (fox) premieres 2011 Wait, what’s this, a comic book series being turned into a drama for FOX? A lot of people dislike FOX, but really, would another network take this many chances with genre shows? Produced from Star Trek writers, and J.J. Abrahms partners in crime, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci but being run by Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles’ Josh Friedman. Starring Miranda Otto (Lord of the Rings), Sarah Bolger (The Tudors), and Nick Stahl (Terminator 3) about Nina Locke and her three children as they move to a new family home and discover mysterious keys hidden within the mansion’s walls. |
That Alcatraz show looks interesting! I have been fascinated by Alacatraz, and Frank Lee Morris, and the Anglin brothers, the prisoners who supposedly successfully escaped from there, ever since I visited Alacatraz when I was younger.
Hm, I wonder if it’ll have anything to do with the real history of Alcatraz or just the location? Maybe after I find out I’ll have to do some research. ;)
Anything else interest you?
