But it’s always nice to see that the things you like are liked by others, too. Oh, and anyone who thought vampires were on their way out, well sorry, but not quite yet.
Twilight is of course leading the way with 8 nominations including favorite movie actor and actress, favorite onscreen team, favorite movie stars under 25, and favorite movie and favorite drama movie.
Then, there’s my other vampire favorite, The Vampire Diaries scored nominations for favorite tv drama and favorite sci-fi/fantasy show. Ian Somerhalder is also nominated cause he’s apparently a fan favorite. Not saying he doesn’t do good work, but yeah. Noticeably absent however is Nina Dobrev. She’s playing two very different roles this year and she can’t even get a nomination? Fandom, you have failed us all.
Oh, and Fringe is also nominated for favorite sci-fi/fantasy show.I’m also very happy to see Nikita under favorite new tv drama. Are you seeing what I mean about alliances?
Probably the most successful movie this year, Inception was nominated for four awards: favorite movie, favorite action movie, favorite drama movie, and favorite onscreen team. And The Social Network also got a nomination for favorite drama. It’s strange since the movie is not only fan favorite for the year, but also a critical darling. I don’t think that happens too often.
Toy Story 3 is also nominated for favorite movie and favorite family movie, and I’m curious to see how it’ll do in other award ceremonies. Plus, Chloe Moretz who really became known this year has two movies in the running, Let Me In and Kick-Ass.
So, what are you guys happy or unhappy about with this year’s People’s Choice nominations?

The Event (s01ep07): I Know Who You Are
One thing this show has going for it is the nifty flashbacks we get that intermingle with the present day in order to give us more info on our characters. Things they could do better: better characterization in the here and now.
Simon had an episode devoted to his flashbacks a couple weeks back, and this week it’s Blake’s turn. He’s always been portrayed as possibly a bad guy, despite being the president’s right hand, but now we learn his wife was a Russian spy. He still loved her even after he found out, and now he’s still bitter about it all. The whole alternate identity of his wife then leads to Lee’s alternate identity and whether the government will find out now that he’s unconscious in the hospital. Surprise, the aliens get Lee get him out of another jam. Also, Thomas is Sophia’s son? Didn’t really see that coming. And I still don’t trust him even if he did say he would obey her orders now. Meanwhile, Sean and Leila are still trying to find her sister and track down some codes to a bunch of girls who have also gone missing. What happened to them? They appear to be the result of some kind of creepy experiment judging by the last season of their disfigured faces. |
Stargate Universe (s02ep07): The Greater Good
I’d already read in a couple places online that this episode would be a game changer and alter the course of the series. Then, when I saw the selection of previously clips they’d chosen for before the episode, I was pretty sure all those statements was going to be correct. And they were, but I’m still not sure how I feel about it. Eli and Ginn continue to be very cute and are apparently already hooking up. Even though Wray semi caught them in the act, it seems she finds it more amusing and supportive than alarming. I like that everyone trusts Ginn even though she’s Lucian Alliance, but I hope she doesn’t turn out to be bad or using them, etc. There’s been a lot of alien life this season on the show. Not really in this episode though, since all they really find is a ship. But I’m not sure if they had planned all this since last season, or decided to listen to criticisms and revamp the show a little bit. Either way I think they’re getting better.
I understand Rush is like everyone on the crew’s foil, but he just gets more and more annoying each week to me with his better than thou attitude. I like that his secret about the bridge of Destiny finally comes out because he needed help after being stranded on the alien ship. How’s that for justice? Rush is so sneaky and needed to be taken down a peg. Despite my dislike, I don’t want him gone or left behind though. But Young is right to clobber him to hell and back for everything he’s done. As I’ve been saying for weeks, Rush’s decisions caused a couple of deaths along the way, plus lots of frustration and grief. I did like Rush finally confiding in him about Destiny’s mission to find the creation of the big bang, as well as Rush saving Young’s life.
I found it awesome that Eli finally shows he’s smart too, by gaining one up on Rush and figuring out about the bridge. And now that everyone knows about the bridge and Destiny’s mission, will they work on getting home? Or will they all focus on the mission thinking, as Rush says, that will be the key to getting them home? This is starting to sound like Quantum Leap, finding the one leap that will take them home. And OMG, what is that creepy Alliance guy Simeon going to do to Ginn? Or well, Amanda Perry in Ginn’s body? Please, don’t hurt her. |
Caprica (s01ep15): The Dirteaters
I’m so sad this show has already been canceled, because this was another awesome episode this week. That and I’m so upset this show is only airing on Space in Canada, and our rips are such bad quality. Canadians, why aren’t my downloads high quality?
I’m not sure why it took so long for Daniel to realize that eventually they’d tire of him and want him dead as well. Don’t you know if you play with people who kill other people, it’s only a matter of time before they want you dead, too? Interesting that Sam was his lowest supporter and is now turning out to be his ally. Really this episode was all about the flashbacks to Sam and Joseph’s childhood which I loved. It gave us a chance to finally see what makes the characters tick, the relationship to each other, their Tauron society, their parents, etc. It’s something we already felt, but now we know how Joseph had to kill his father. Also, Sam finally gets some characterization of his own. I’m glad to see Zoe and Tamara back again as they’re all badass cleaning up New Caprica City. Daniel comes in and sees his daughter again for the first time since the pilot, right? Then, my favorite scene, Daniel and Amanda decide to go looking for Zoe in New Cap City. Let the hunt begin. |
The Vampire Diaries (s02ep09): Katerina
Nikita (s01ep09): One Way
Out of all the ships on this show I’d say Nikita/Michael is my least favorite. Still, I respect their relationship with each other and did like seeing them working together and her caring about helping Michael take out the guy who killed his family. Michael takes after Alex a lot, they’re both in it to avenge the death of their loved ones. Best of all, we got flashbacks of Michael to when he was a young U.S. Naval Intelligence Officer with a wife and a daughter. Clean shaven, hair dyed, and definitely younger.
Alex gets strangely sloppy and leaves some files open at the doctor’s when she’s trying to help Nikita track down Michael. Then, even worse the doctor finds out about it. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Jayden, she hasn’t been missed, but it’s amusing how Alex sets her up and uses her to corroborate her fake story that the doctor assaulted her. Still, it’s just a matter of time before she gets found out as a mole.
I can’t believe Michael goes back to Division even more loyal to Percy and more angry with Nikita just because she wouldn’t let him kill himself trying to take down the guy killed his family. Percy has no respect for anyone and only cares about getting Nikita, even if it meant botching Michael’s operation himself. I also was surprised they showed Michael being water tortured while captive. |
Fringe (s03ep06): 6955 kHz
Have I mentioned that I like how each MOTW this season is also a mythology episode in disguise? This week they’re tracking down this mysterious frequency, which leads them to pieces buried all over the world that create ‘the device’. Walter doesn’t want Peter working on the device, well guess what, AltOlivia doesn’t care and she’s leading you to all the pieces so she can destroy your world. How’s that for fun? More importantly, subconscious Peter is still talking to our Olivia and is finally convincing her she needs to go back home. Yes, come back to us and boot AltOlivia to the curb. She’s having a horrible time pretending to be you anyway. |

Life Unexpected (s02ep07): Camp Grounded
How does this show make me feel good, and yet so bad at the same time, for shipping Lux with her teacher Eric? They’re doing a good job at putting us into Lux’s shoes. We know we shouldn’t like them together, but we can’t help it. Seems Eric decides he can’t help it either, then let’s her sit next to him on the bus home while he secretly holds her hand. I loved how she was back to being the mature Lux from last season, and basically told him off for not leaving her alone like he said he would. I also liked how Emma unknowingly told her to go for the guy who is ‘doesn’t come around everyday’. Then, there was their stupid decision to go swimming and kiss in the lake where Tash, who is clearly not supportive, goes looking and sees them. This can all lead nowhere good, but I’m excited to see where it does go.
Speaking of Baze, I’m still not on the Emma/Baze bandwagon, but I do like these new sweeter and a bit more mature Baze. Never thought I’d see the day when Ryan and Cate have more problems than Baze and immaturely air out their dirty laundry in front of everyone old and young. I found myself ‘aaw’ing for Emma when he showed her the inside of the van he decorated and lit up for her.
Cate and Ran and their roller coaster of love. I’m so tired of it. It’s getting beyond ridiculous on how they’re both blaming each other for everything wrong in their relationship. They just need to let it all out and either get over it or don’t. Ryan needs to either show up for therapy and work it out, or don’t show up and call this relationship done. I knew they should have been more honest with each other before they got married. |
Stargate Universe (s02ep06): Trial and Error
I’m liking this new Eli love interest, Ginn. It gives the story an in with the other side, plus it keeps Eli away from Chloe and with someone new. Plus, they’re just so damn cute together. You know, cause of the math. I’m still not fully trusting of her, btw. We have to be on guard and all.
Young finally hits rock bottom, more and more drinking combined with repetitive nightmares he can’t escape nor figure out. Rush is off doing his own thing. Camille is trying to keep everything sane, but it just feels like there’s no one leadin this ship. I have to wonder if Young’s nightmares are the ship talking to him just like Rush’s visions. I liked the idea that Destiny was all weird while Young was also spacey, and then once he took charge everything went back to normal. It’s too bad it was just coincidence and it was actually just Rush controlling the ship again. I’m just happy we got to see more Young and less Rush. Rush has a big ego and he’s going to face a problem he can’t defeat alone.
I also liked Matt stepping in for Young while he was out of sorts. I’m fine with him taking over the ship too if Young can’t do it. Just not Rush, anyone but Rush. And I’m also happy to report Matt and Chloe still seem happy together and Matt was unaffected by her blood transfusion. My favorite scene of the week though was between Young and Tamara. He’s still freaking out by his dreams and drinking more. She thinks it has to do with his depression about everything and their baby, so she tells him about the baby being back on the planet. At this point I’m not sure which one of them sounds crazier, but it was a beautiful scene. |
Caprica (s01ep14): Blowback
I’m happy to report that me worrying about whether Lacy would be back after Clarice sent her away two weeks ago was in vain. I like that Lacy is still this sweet girl who doesn’t seem cutout for this lifestyle, but can turn badass in a second when her plane to Gemenon is hijacked. The hijackers are killing off the kids one by one until Lacy and her new friend get the upper hand and she repeatedly gun butts a guy. Ouch.
I really didn’t guess the whole hijacking was a test on the part of STO for the new recruits. Glad Lacy passed though, because then at the end we see what happens to those who fail. I’m so sad this show was cancelled, because just seeing how fast they’re moving now, and how the cylons are already being employed…as executioners, it was just getting good. The other storyline between Clarice and Amanda also had me on edge, too. I wasn’t sure how it was all going to turn out and whether Amanda would be found out. I wasn’t expecting Clarice to kill her own wife no questions asked after being told she was spying on her. All this after her wife vouched to Amanda that Clarice was fine and she knew her own wife. Wow, what an episode. |
The Vampire Diaries (s01ep08): Rose
When your bad guy seems bad, just like how we started with Damon last season, then you one up them with something even worse, The Originals. Judging by the fact Damon staked Elijah one of the Originals and then he came back to life at the end of the episode, I’m guessing we don’t want to mess with these guys. There’s also a new good vamp in town named Rose, who besides having a British accent, I’m not sure why she gets the episode named after her. Is it because she was introduced in this episode? I’m pretty blah with her character so far, though I did like when Elijah killed her friend…family…er countryman, Trevor. Her reaction was heartbreaking. Really, did they expect to betray Elijah, but give him Elena as a token and get out alive?
It’s not often we get to see the softer side of the Stefan and Damon relationship, so I really enjoyed seeing them get past their drama this week. Stefan continues to be the better brother and tries to get Damon to talk about their Elena issues, then finally apologizes to Damon after 145 years for making him a vampire. I’d say that’s progress. Of course, then Damon tries his hand at doing the same by telling Elena he loves her and letting that go. Then he tells her Stefan is a better person and better for her, before compelling her to forget it all. Now, I know I’m an Elena/Stefan groupie, but I can respect Elena/Damon scenes as much as the next person. This one didn’t do anything for me, and mostly just felt contrived. Not one of my favorites for them.
I also hated seeing Caroline back down from Damon, when he told her to stay away from Tyler and not be friends with him. She needs to kick his ass again soon. I’m glad Caroline was a better person and supported Tyler, without really telling him anything yet, when he had no one else to count on. I’m still on the Caroline/Matt train, but these two are interesting so far. I think it’s reasonable to say this fandom is king of multishipping, everyone with everyone. Only possible ship I’ve seen grumbles about has been Bonnie/Jeremy. I’m thinking tonight’s scenes between them, with Bonnie overexerting her power to find Elena and Jeremy coming to her aid and taking care of her, should change people’s minds. Bonnie let’s her guard down and I liked it a lot. Most importantly we find out a lot of stuff on this season’s arc from the existence of the Originals to the news a doppelganger can break the sun and moon seal while the moonstone keeps it together. There’s just one thing I want to know, when do Stefan and Elena get back together? |
Nikita (s01ep08): The Phoenix
I don’t think I’m the only who think this, but an episode is just not as good when there’s less Alex. Still, watching Alex kick ass against that one guy and then get sent to the infirmary just to suavely steal a blue pill for Nikita made it all worth it. I think I have a girl crush on Alex.
Then, of course there was the kiss she gave Thom just to plan said pill in his pocket which was also good. Only thing is I know she cares about him, but does she have any feelings for him? After last week I’m now on the shipping bandwagon, but I need to know where this’ll go. I feel bad for Thom otherwise.
Sometimes the MOTW, mission of the week, is really important, and then other times it’s just to get from point A to point B like this week. We seem to get inklings of how Nikita’s mission to take down Division is futile. Once they’re gone what’s to stop another organization from taking their place? I can’t decide if the show just expanded their mythology or condemned it. |
Fringe (s03ep05): Amber31422
Am I mistaken or did Olivia say she’s only been back to work for 8 days? It feels like ages already. I felt like this one was another filler episode, though I did enjoy seeing Shawn and Aaron Ashmore as the twins. I’d forgotten it was them until more than halfway through the episode. Still, it’s always interesting to get another glimpse at how the alt!world operates with their strange procedures, ambering, etc.
More important though is how this season the writers are going about things the right way and mixing MOTW with mythology. This is the Fringe I’ve wanted to see all along. I love that Peter, or her subconscious Peter, is still appearing to her and getting through to her on how she’s not from that world. Good thing too, because I miss our Olivia being fine, normal, and not taking drugs just to cope.
Even more awesome, Olivia uses Alt!Walter’s tank to briefly go back to our world twice. That’s the last bit of evidence she needed to convince her she’s from our world. Only problem now is how will she get home? She still can’t control it. And I’m not convinced Alt!Walter doesn’t realize something is going on. |
