The Event (s01ep07): I Know Who You Are
One thing this show has going for it is the nifty flashbacks we get that intermingle with the present day in order to give us more info on our characters. Things they could do better: better characterization in the here and now.
Simon had an episode devoted to his flashbacks a couple weeks back, and this week it’s Blake’s turn. He’s always been portrayed as possibly a bad guy, despite being the president’s right hand, but now we learn his wife was a Russian spy. He still loved her even after he found out, and now he’s still bitter about it all. The whole alternate identity of his wife then leads to Lee’s alternate identity and whether the government will find out now that he’s unconscious in the hospital. Surprise, the aliens get Lee get him out of another jam. Also, Thomas is Sophia’s son? Didn’t really see that coming. And I still don’t trust him even if he did say he would obey her orders now. Meanwhile, Sean and Leila are still trying to find her sister and track down some codes to a bunch of girls who have also gone missing. What happened to them? They appear to be the result of some kind of creepy experiment judging by the last season of their disfigured faces. |
Stargate Universe (s02ep07): The Greater Good
I’d already read in a couple places online that this episode would be a game changer and alter the course of the series. Then, when I saw the selection of previously clips they’d chosen for before the episode, I was pretty sure all those statements was going to be correct. And they were, but I’m still not sure how I feel about it. Eli and Ginn continue to be very cute and are apparently already hooking up. Even though Wray semi caught them in the act, it seems she finds it more amusing and supportive than alarming. I like that everyone trusts Ginn even though she’s Lucian Alliance, but I hope she doesn’t turn out to be bad or using them, etc. There’s been a lot of alien life this season on the show. Not really in this episode though, since all they really find is a ship. But I’m not sure if they had planned all this since last season, or decided to listen to criticisms and revamp the show a little bit. Either way I think they’re getting better.
I understand Rush is like everyone on the crew’s foil, but he just gets more and more annoying each week to me with his better than thou attitude. I like that his secret about the bridge of Destiny finally comes out because he needed help after being stranded on the alien ship. How’s that for justice? Rush is so sneaky and needed to be taken down a peg. Despite my dislike, I don’t want him gone or left behind though. But Young is right to clobber him to hell and back for everything he’s done. As I’ve been saying for weeks, Rush’s decisions caused a couple of deaths along the way, plus lots of frustration and grief. I did like Rush finally confiding in him about Destiny’s mission to find the creation of the big bang, as well as Rush saving Young’s life.
I found it awesome that Eli finally shows he’s smart too, by gaining one up on Rush and figuring out about the bridge. And now that everyone knows about the bridge and Destiny’s mission, will they work on getting home? Or will they all focus on the mission thinking, as Rush says, that will be the key to getting them home? This is starting to sound like Quantum Leap, finding the one leap that will take them home. And OMG, what is that creepy Alliance guy Simeon going to do to Ginn? Or well, Amanda Perry in Ginn’s body? Please, don’t hurt her. |
Caprica (s01ep15): The Dirteaters
I’m so sad this show has already been canceled, because this was another awesome episode this week. That and I’m so upset this show is only airing on Space in Canada, and our rips are such bad quality. Canadians, why aren’t my downloads high quality?
I’m not sure why it took so long for Daniel to realize that eventually they’d tire of him and want him dead as well. Don’t you know if you play with people who kill other people, it’s only a matter of time before they want you dead, too? Interesting that Sam was his lowest supporter and is now turning out to be his ally. Really this episode was all about the flashbacks to Sam and Joseph’s childhood which I loved. It gave us a chance to finally see what makes the characters tick, the relationship to each other, their Tauron society, their parents, etc. It’s something we already felt, but now we know how Joseph had to kill his father. Also, Sam finally gets some characterization of his own. I’m glad to see Zoe and Tamara back again as they’re all badass cleaning up New Caprica City. Daniel comes in and sees his daughter again for the first time since the pilot, right? Then, my favorite scene, Daniel and Amanda decide to go looking for Zoe in New Cap City. Let the hunt begin. |
The Vampire Diaries (s02ep09): Katerina
Nikita (s01ep09): One Way
Out of all the ships on this show I’d say Nikita/Michael is my least favorite. Still, I respect their relationship with each other and did like seeing them working together and her caring about helping Michael take out the guy who killed his family. Michael takes after Alex a lot, they’re both in it to avenge the death of their loved ones. Best of all, we got flashbacks of Michael to when he was a young U.S. Naval Intelligence Officer with a wife and a daughter. Clean shaven, hair dyed, and definitely younger.
Alex gets strangely sloppy and leaves some files open at the doctor’s when she’s trying to help Nikita track down Michael. Then, even worse the doctor finds out about it. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Jayden, she hasn’t been missed, but it’s amusing how Alex sets her up and uses her to corroborate her fake story that the doctor assaulted her. Still, it’s just a matter of time before she gets found out as a mole.
I can’t believe Michael goes back to Division even more loyal to Percy and more angry with Nikita just because she wouldn’t let him kill himself trying to take down the guy killed his family. Percy has no respect for anyone and only cares about getting Nikita, even if it meant botching Michael’s operation himself. I also was surprised they showed Michael being water tortured while captive. |
Fringe (s03ep06): 6955 kHz
Have I mentioned that I like how each MOTW this season is also a mythology episode in disguise? This week they’re tracking down this mysterious frequency, which leads them to pieces buried all over the world that create ‘the device’. Walter doesn’t want Peter working on the device, well guess what, AltOlivia doesn’t care and she’s leading you to all the pieces so she can destroy your world. How’s that for fun? More importantly, subconscious Peter is still talking to our Olivia and is finally convincing her she needs to go back home. Yes, come back to us and boot AltOlivia to the curb. She’s having a horrible time pretending to be you anyway. |

The Event (s01ep08): For the Good of Our Country *** Turns out President Martinez has another person on his staff with an agenda. And Sean and Leila have a little problem staying hidden.
Stargate Universe (s02ep08): Malice **** Simeon escapes from the Destiny and decides he’s going to take everyone out on his away. Not if Rush has anything to say about it though. Caprica (s01ep16): The Heavens Will Rise **** Daniel gets some help seeking out Tamara and Zoe in V-world. Lacy discovers a neat trick with the robots. Oh, help and it’s getting closer to apotheosis time. |
The Event (s01ep08): For the Good of Our Country
I’m usually all for the flashbacks we get to allow for some development of characters, seeing as we don’t get so much in present day, but Im wondering why they chose to make such a minor character as, yes I had to look up his name, Vice President Jarvis. It’s more of a fill in as to why he was the one who made the call for the plane to hit the White House, rather than who he is as a person. I’m still not quite sure what he was hoping to accomplish, but working for the creepy old man is not a good thing. Is he or isn’t he dead after the explosion?
Speaking of creepy old guy, James, his storyline just isn’t doing it for me with the weird kids and how apparently he’s using them to de-age himself. As weird as this show is anyway, I was ok until now. I think I’ll have to hop off the bandwagon now and watch from the sidelines.
Then, there’s Vicky who went from being Sean and Leila’s enemy to now being against her employers and toward the truth. All for her own agenda, of course. And Sean and Leila, strange unbelievable things always seem to follow them. Like kidnapping a doctor who can save you from a bullet wound in the middle of nowhere. On the other hand, I’m quite enjoying the growing friendship between President Martinez and Sterling. The one nice spot in the episode. |
Stargate Universe (s02ep08): Malice
I really was not expecting Ginn to die this week. I thought they’d paired her up with Eli because they had “math” in common and were cute together. Instead, it just gave someone on Destiny a connection to one of the Lucian Alliance. I’m glad Ginn was able to warn Earth while she was away of a Lucian Alliance attack, even if Rush killing Simeon prevented them from getting anymore information.
I was also surprised we finally found out what happens to someone who dies while body swapped by the stones. Guess we learned our answer and it’s tragic, Simeon kills both Ginn and Dr. Amanda Perry. And for what, really? I’m not the biggest Rush fan, but even I was cheering him on as he went after Simeon. Well, I was cheering him on until I realized they needed Simeon alive to get information for the possible attack on Earth. On the one hand I agree, he probably would never have told any of them. But on the other hand, well, maybe they could have gotten it out of him? It was nice to see Matt all grr and take charge down on the planet and with Rush. He shoved him around a lot, huh? Poor Eli, I really felt bad for him, but he was acting really mean and crazy. And then there’s Chloe who’s new alien part totally saves the day by helping delay FTL til the crew can get back onboard. Nice to see her being able to help rather than being a civilian. |
Caprica (s01ep16): The Heavens Will Rise
I’m so excited to see Daniel and Amanda in the same room again. Daniel finally has her back, and not the fake creepy version, and she’s putting him in his place. He really deserved that slap from her for torturing Zoe with fire so long ago. It was a long time coming. Also, loved both of them coming clean about everything. I hope this continues to get better.
Another big reveal this week, Lacy can control the robots. I’m thinking this obviously has something to do with the fact Zoe used to be in the original model they used to make all the rest. This is a pretty awesome development, though probably not a good thing for Lacy. I still really love her character.
I keep waiting each week for Amanda to get found out and Clarice to go crazy on her. Agent Duram got it this week instead with a bullet after Amanda steals Clarice’s holoband for him. He’s lucky to be alive. I find it interesting Clarice was so willing to brutally kill her wife, no questions asked, but when it’s pointed out Amanda is the real mole, she’s hesitant at first. The Willow family are not going to be happy now that they know. Next week, Amanda, Daniel, and roped in Sam journey to V-world to get Zoe and Tamara. Only thing is Sam just wants to kill Tamara to save his brother the grief of seeing his daughter’s face everywhere. Can’t wait. |
